I did it.
There is now a fiction tab, and there is a short story posted. I've also linked it on the next line.
The Last Wish is one of my earliest short stories. Over the last seven years, it has been the one I've continued to go back and make edits. Some of you have read a version of the story, but not this one unless you're the amazing person, who suggested the perfect tweak to the ending. You have read it.
I still remember the day I wrote the first draft. It burst out of me in a 24-hour run of lots and lots of typing, and it has been in my head a lot of days since then.
I've noticed that my short story collection is very diverse in terms of genre. Most deal with two to three main characters.
This is the one that started it all.
I understand not everyone (OK, very few people) enjoys reading fiction, but if you do, there's now a page ready to go.
I'm not sure how long I will keep the story posted or how many I will post or when I will post the next one.
I have been stockpiling some that I think fit an overall theme that would go nicely together as a collection. We shall see.
I'm curious to hear your feedback about the story I've posted. Good or bad. I've continually reminded myself that what I create isn't going to be for everyone. I appreciate any constructive criticism you want to share. Feel free to email me at TimLandesJr@gmail.com.
I'm not going to lie, it's a bit nerve wracking to put my fiction out there in the world, but I have to at some point, right?
Lauren Groff, who is one of my favorite authors, replied to a tweet I wrote last year with this:
Stories do not like humans to sit on them; they find it painful and undignified. Best kick them out into the world to find their own way.
So I'm taking her advice.
I hope you enjoy the story and those to come.
